Aptos operates as a Layer 1 Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain, leveraging an innovative smart contract programming language named Move. Developed independently by Meta (formerly Facebook)'s Diem blockchain engineers, Move is based on Rust. Aptos envisions a blockchain ecosystem poised to drive mainstream adoption of web3 and empower a multitude of Decentralized Applications (DApps) to tackle real-world user challenges. With its PoS blockchain architecture, Aptos boasts a potential transaction throughput exceeding 150,000 transactions per second (tps) through parallel execution. In March 2022, Aptos secured $200 million in a seed funding round led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). The round also saw participation from prominent crypto entities such as Tiger Global and Multicoin Capital. Building on this momentum, the startup proceeded to raise an additional $200 million in a Series A round in July, with investments from Dragonfly, Apollo Global, Franklin Templeton, Animoca, Jump Crypto, and other notable backers. Two months later, Binance Labs strategically invested an undisclosed sum in Aptos. On October 18, 2022, Aptos announced the launch of its mainnet, following the Aptos genesis event on October 12, 2022.
