In contrast to a widespread misconception, most cryptocurrencies in circulation, such as Bitcoin (BTC), are not anonymous but rather pseudonymous. Although they conceal user identities, individual users possess public addresses traceable through data science and blockchain forensics methods. Zcash transactions, however, traverse a public blockchain while maintaining privacy. Unlike pseudonymous cryptocurrencies, ZEC transactions default to concealing sending and receiving addresses as well as the transaction amount. Nonetheless, there exists an option to disclose this information for auditing or regulatory purposes. Zcash made its debut on October 28, 2016, initially derived from Bitcoin's codebase.
