Solana emerges as a highly efficient open-source initiative harnessing the inherent permissionless nature of blockchain technology to offer decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions. Although the project's inception and initial groundwork date back to 2017, Solana was formally introduced in March 2020 under the auspices of the Solana Foundation, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The Solana protocol is meticulously crafted to facilitate the creation of decentralized applications (DApps). It endeavors to enhance scalability through the integration of a novel consensus mechanism known as proof-of-history (PoH), complemented by the underlying proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus of the blockchain. Thanks to its innovative hybrid consensus model, Solana garners interest from both individual traders and institutional investors.
