At its core, Axelar comprises three essential components: a decentralized network, a software development kit featuring protocols and APIs, and a collection of gateway smart contracts designed for facilitating cross-chain connectivity. Leveraging a decentralized network of validators, Axelar welcomes participation from anyone, enabling them to build upon or utilize the network. App developers can easily interact with the network through a straightforward API layered atop a permissionless system, which efficiently routes messages and upholds network security via a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. The native token of the Axelar network is AXL. Additionally, the protocol extends support for the cross-chain transfer of various native tokens by utilizing their wrapped ERC-20 equivalents, including AVAX (Avalanche), ETH (Ethereum), FTM (Fantom), GLMR (Moonbeam), and MATIC (Polygon).
