Celo emerges as a carbon-negative, permissionless blockchain fostering a vibrant ecosystem of global collaborators dedicated to crafting innovative Web3 dapps aimed at bolstering an inclusive financial landscape. Designed to be accessible to individuals worldwide via mobile devices, the Celo ecosystem comprises a decentralized proof-of-stake blockchain technology stack (known as the Celo platform), the CELO governance asset, and multiple Mento stable assets (including cUSD, cEUR, and cREAL), facilitating the utilization of digital assets by real-world users. The open-source Celo mainnet was inaugurated on Earth Day in 2020. Recently, the Celo community signaled its intent through an indicative on-chain governance proposal (temperature check) to transition Celo to an Ethereum layer-2 solution.
