OKX is a global company offering exchange and Web3 services with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, the UAE, Silicon Valley, and the Bahamas. Its exchange services are run from Seychelles and the Bahamas. While OKX provides Web3 services in the U.S. and has an office in Silicon Valley, it does not offer exchange services in the U.S.
The exchange offers basic trading options like spot trading and simple options, as well as more advanced derivatives such as margin trading, futures, perpetual swaps, and options. Other products include trading bots, block trading, OKX Earn (for savings, stablecoins, DeFi, staking, ETH 2.0, and more), crypto loans, and Jumpstart, which is their launchpad.
OKX's wallet is described as a “portal to Web3,” providing a crypto hot wallet, a decentralized exchange (DEX), an NFT marketplace, and access to decentralized applications (DApps). It supports over 30 networks, including major blockchains like Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, Polygon, Avalanche, Fantom, and more.
OKX also has its own blockchain, X Layer, and its native token, OKB, which supports DApp deployment and provides infrastructure like OKX Oracle for developers.
In January 2022, OKEx rebranded to OKX, introducing new branding and a new roadmap.
OKX (formerly OKEx) is owned by OK Group.
The company was founded by Mingxing "Star" Xu in China in 2013. Xu is a Chinese entrepreneur with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics from the University of Science and Technology Beijing. He is the CEO of OK Group.
The exchange lists over 350 cryptocurrencies and supports more than 500 trading pairs. Major tokens on the platform include BTC, ETH, OKB, AAVE, SOL, MATIC, XRP, DOGE, SHIB, and DOT.
The fee structure is based on a taker and maker model. Trading fees start at 0.10% and go lower as trading volume increases. For regular users, fees depend on the amount of OKB (the platform's native currency) they hold. For advanced users, fees are based on their trading volume over the past 30 days.
OKX offers margin trading with up to 10X leverage. For derivatives, it provides futures trading and perpetual swaps with up to 125X leverage. Traders can also use leverage with crypto options, including BTC, ETH, and more.
