Zilliqa is a public, permissionless blockchain designed to achieve high throughput, capable of processing thousands of transactions per second. It addresses blockchain scalability and speed concerns by implementing sharding as a second-layer scaling solution. The platform hosts numerous decentralized applications and, as of October 2020, supports staking and yield farming. Development of Zilliqa officially commenced in June 2017, and its testnet became operational in March 2018. Just over a year later, in June 2019, the platform launched its mainnet. The native utility token of Zilliqa, ZIL, is utilized for processing transactions on the network and executing smart contracts.
