Verge is a cryptocurrency and blockchain platform with a strong emphasis on privacy, aiming to establish a swift, efficient, and decentralized payment network that enhances upon the original Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain. It incorporates additional privacy measures, such as integrating the anonymity network Tor into its wallet, known as vergePay, and offering the option of sending transactions to stealth addresses. The project is characterized by its community-driven nature, relying on volunteers and priding itself on its open-source ethos. Initially launched in October 2014 under the name DogeCoinDark, Verge began as a fork of Peercoin (PPC). In February 2016, it underwent a rebranding to Verge, aimed at facilitating wider adoption among the masses and establishing a clear distinction from Dogecoin (DOGE), with which it shares no direct connection. Presently, the project is built upon the Bitcoin source code.
