Ravencoin is a decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) network created with a specific use case in mind: facilitating the transfer of assets between parties. Utilizing a blockchain designed for this singular purpose, Ravencoin was developed from a fork of the Bitcoin code. Its announcement came on October 31, 2017, followed by the release of mining binaries on January 3, 2018, in what was termed a fair launch. This launch method excluded any premine, initial coin offering (ICO), or masternodes. The project's name is a nod to the popular TV series Game of Thrones.
