Band Protocol is a cross-chain data oracle platform facilitating the transmission of real-world data to on-chain applications and linking APIs to smart contracts to enable the seamless exchange of information between on-chain and off-chain data sources. By furnishing reliable and verifiable real-world data to blockchains, Band Protocol expands the horizon of possibilities for developers, allowing them to integrate various types of real-world data into their decentralized application (DApp) logic, covering domains such as sports, weather, random numbers, price feeds, and more. Initially launched as an ERC-20 project on the Ethereum blockchain in September 2019, Band Protocol transitioned to the Cosmos network in June 2020 with the introduction of Band Protocol 2.0. The new protocol is constructed on BandChain, utilizing the Cosmos SDK. Oracle nodes on BandChain not only transmit data but also partake in block production/validation, serving a dual function. BAND serves as the native token of the Band Protocol ecosystem, functioning as collateral for validators fulfilling data requests and as the primary medium of exchange on BandChain, facilitating payment for private data.
